Former LFSA Player Rachel Quon selected to the U15 National Team Camp

Press release 1/9/06

Our congratulations go to Rachel Quon who has been selected by the US Soccer Federation to participate in the U.S. Under 15 Girls National Team Training Camp in January. The training camp will take place in Carson, California at US Soccers National Training Center on January 22-28, 2006. At the camp, the 24 player squad will have the opportunity to acclimate to the national team environment and will train with national coaches to improve their skills and technique.

Rachel has been part of the Illinois Youth Soccer/US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) for the past three years. ODP is a national identification and development program for high-level players throughout the country. Teams are chosen to represent their state, region and eventually, the United States in soccer competitions.

Although Rachel has started playing with another club since starting Lake Forest High School, she played on Lake Forest Soccer Association teams for seven years (U8-U14) - training under LFSA Director Oktay Akgun and LFSA Head Coach Ty Stuckslager. Her LFSA team successfully won first place in the A division and won many tournaments. In addition, her team has produced many ODP participants from the community including Mercedes Alvarez, Emily Barrett, Megan Bourne, Lauren Clatch, Annie Evans, Betsy Frese, Nicole Lipp, and Maddy Mayer. Annie and Lauren were both selected to the state team for the past three years. Nicole Lipp has been selected as a state and regional player for the past three years, and was also selected to the U15 National Team earlier this year.

Good luck at National Camp, Rachel and Nicole!
